On Earth Day, communities came together to fight for everything.

During its active years, the Green New Deal Network helped coordinate national Earth Day mobilizations in response to what organizers described as unprecedented threats to people, the environment, and democratic institutions. At the time, policies advanced by the Trump administration, Elon Musk–aligned interests, and Republican leadership in Congress were widely criticized for undermining environmental protections, public services, and worker stability, including proposals for large-scale firings of public workers responsible for clean water, clean air, and the stewardship of national parks, cuts to Medicaid and public education, and expanded drilling and extraction that threatened mountains, reefs, forests, and coastlines. Organizers framed these actions not as isolated policy choices, but as part of a broader assault on environmental justice, public health, and the ability of communities to live free and healthy lives, and the Earth Day mobilizations reflected a moment when environmental, labor, health care, and democracy movements aligned to resist these threats and assert a shared vision for a more just and sustainable future.
