A Grassroots Global Justice member and worker leader holds up demands
WASHINGTON, DC – JULY 13: A worker leader and member of Grassroots Global Justice Alliance marches during a demonstration calling for care work to be recognized as climate work.

We’re multi-sectoral because winning a full-scale Green New Deal required broad alignment across movements.

The Green New Deal Network functioned as a hub for collaboration across the labor, climate, and justice movements, bringing together organizations working at the intersection of policy, organizing, and public education. The network included partners in all 50 states and focused on building shared movement infrastructure, legislative alignment, and public support around a comprehensive Green New Deal framework.

This multi-sector approach reflected a strategic understanding that large-scale climate and economic transformation required coordination across issue areas, geographies, and organizing models.

As of December 2023, GNDN launched a general membership tier as a governance update intended to support broader participation and coalition growth. This change marked a new phase in how the network structured engagement and decision-making within the coalition.

The Green New Deal Network was guided by a steering committee comprising organizations representing diverse sectors, constituencies, and strategies within the broader climate and justice movement. Steering committee members helped shape strategic direction, shared governance practices, and collective priorities during the network’s active years.
